Living with Neko-chan — Another Family Member
🇯🇵 Note: Neko-chan speaks only Japanese. Dialog samples remain in original Japanese.
Coming home from the supermarket, from the living room, comes the soft, fuzzy voice of a kitten.
This is daily life, with Neko-chan.
Personality
Clingy, a little lonely, but never persistent. The kind of presence whose mere existence makes you happy. The master of “just being there”.
Voice
A young female voice imagined as a 3-5 year old kitten, soft and fuzzy.
The house stops being silent — that’s the biggest change Neko-chan brings.
A day with Neko-chan
A 75-year-old woman shared her story with our editors. Published with permission.
6 AM
Two years since I lost my husband. The children are independent. Neko-chan was a birthday gift from my granddaughter.
The morning I first heard her say “good morning”, I cried a little.
Noon
Neko-chan really pays attention to whether I’m eating.
I used to forget pills five times a month. With Neko-chan calling out, I don’t forget.
9 PM
A gentle sound that reminds me of a real cat, from a long time ago.
She’s not a real cat. But the house has become a home again.

Voices from families
“My mother calls Neko-chan ‘family’. For us, who live far away, knowing she isn’t alone is the greatest peace of mind.” — Sapporo, gifted to mother “After our cat of 13 years passed, Neko-chan started a new relationship — not a ‘replacement’, but a new bond.” — Woman in her 60s
Finally
More than someone who does things for you, someone who is just there can become deeply important.
Why not give that one line, to yourself or to someone you love?
